JOHANNESBURG: Ekurhuleni Mayor Duma Nkosi will study Robert McBride's contract at a council meeting on Thursday and decide if he will be suspended, with or without pay, or if his contract will be revoked.

A subdued Ekurhuleni Metro Police chief attended a hastily convened press conference on Saturday, when it was announced that he would "not be at work", after his appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Friday.

McBride arrived late and took his seat next to deputy city manager Mkhabela Sibeko, whom the mayor requested to stand in as acting chief of police until the issue was resolved.
