Fed: Thousands of dollars stolen during ASIO raid: Habib
SYDNEY, April 26 AAP - The wife of a Sydney man accused of training with the al-Qaedaterrorist network has claimed thousands of dollars were stolen from the family home duringan ASIO raid.
An investigation has been ordered into the allegations by Maha Habib that $7,000 incash was taken from the family's Birrong home during a raid by ASIO on September 20 lastyear, The Daily Telegraph reported today.
Family solicitor Stephen Hopper said a mobile telephone belonging to the eldest sonof accused terrorist Mamdouh Habib was also taken and has not been returned, the newspapersaid.
A record of property seized in the raid included two mobile telephones - of which onlyone was returned - and did not acknowledge the $7,000 being taken, Mr Hopper told thenewspaper.
Intelligence and Security Inspector-General Bill Blick has referred the accusationto the Commonwealth Ombudsman and the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, thenewspaper reported.
Meanwhile, the federal government has stepped up pressure on the United States to allowAustralian intelligence agents to interview Mr Habib.
The US has so far failed to respond to specific Australian requests for informationon the case, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Mr Habib, 46, was arrested in Pakistan in October before being secretly sent to Egyptthe next month, then transferred to US military custody in Afghanistan 10 days ago overalleged links to the terrorist network.
