Vic: Smoke calls flood triple-0 line

Melbourne residents have flooded triple-0 emergency lines with calls reporting smoke
from bushfires .. burning in the state's north-east and Gippsland regions.

Much of the state is blanketed in smoke from 14 major fires which have burned through
170 thousand hectares of bush.

Currently there are no fires within hundreds of kilometres of Melbourne .. but smoke
is causing fire alarms to go off .. prompting people to call the fire brigade.

Police are urging people to only call triple-0 to report actual fires or other emergencies.
