FED:MEAA to waive Assange union fee

The Australian journalists' union says it will waive WikiLeaks' founder JULIAN ASSANGE's
membership fee.

Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance president and ACTU chief .. GED KEARNEY .. will
present a new membership card to Mr ASSANGE's Australian lawyer ROB STARY today at a ceremony
in Melbourne.

Victorian MEAA branch secretary LOUISE CONNOR says Mr ASSANGE contacted the Alliance
last month just as the cablegate story began to break.

She says he noted at the time that his credit card had been cancelled .. and he might
not be able to pay his union dues .. but it's been decided to waive his dues.

JULIAN ASSANGE has been a member of the MEAA for several years.
