MasterCard can block casino debts.

The MasterCard company has indicated that it is willing and able to block illegal online gambling. In May 2003, MasterCard made a submission to the Australian Department of Communications. This Department is reviewing Australia's Internet gambling laws, which make it illegal for an Australian to bet at an online casino. The MasterCard submission indicates that it is possible for MasterCard to "identify and deny" authorisation for Internet gambling transactions. The online providers who do not follow the rules will not be authorised to accept MasterCard cards. The Australian Bankers' Association made a submission saying that banks should not act as enforcement agencies.
